Project 365 #27 July 2-July 8, 2014

This week was slower than we’ve been accustomed to lately.  The crew had a good week harvesting in Kansas with little rain delays.  They were able to get moved to Nebraska without any issues.  Mick and I were home with the kids while he sprayed our crops.  We didn’t have many rain delays at home either.  We will be heading out soon to join the crew.  Our flax is starting to bloom and soon will be a fields of purple flowers.  Here are my captures for the week…

Aerial Spraying

The kids love watching planes.  I pulled over for them to watch as this field was sprayed on our way to town.

Moose in North Dakota

We spotted a handsome moose having supper along the road on our way home.  This is probably the closest I’ve been to one.  The boys loved watching him.

Fireworks

Our friend hosts a potluck for the community every year on the 4th, followed by fireworks donated by the community.  The boys and I went while Mick sprayed our beans.  He was able to stop by for supper and then come back later for fireworks.  The boys had fun but were very tired and ready to go home.

Lightning

July 5th we had God’s fireworks.  We were lucky and didn’t have any damage, however there was baseball size hail in the area and some farmers crops were completely wiped out.

Day-188

Our granddaughter, Mollie-Jayne was out for a visit on a muggy day.

North Dakota Sunset

Peaches went for a walk with me, more like a hunt for her.  She’s a great hunter and loves watching the sunset with me.

Day-190

Mick and the boys used the lift to clean gutters on our house.  Brett had lots of fun, but I think dad did too!

Catch The Moment Week #26

This week went a little slower than the previous week – finally!  The guys are down in Kansas trying to cut wheat, but were shut down due to rain.  They did 80 acres in one week due to rain.  We were also shut down spraying at home due to rain.  It was a pretty rough week too.  We had to say goodbye to our little sheltie, Sadie on Wednesday.  We’ve had a lot of deaths in our family, but our boys were younger and didn’t fully understand.  We’ve let them lead us for answers to questions.  Each day something new comes up, but it seems like they are grasping it.  We brought Sadie with us everywhere, she was my sidekick.  Her death has left us with broken hearts.  Here are my captures from the week….

Day-177

This was out the window from the Mayo main clinic in Rochester.  Rochester Fest was happening all week so we went down to check it out.  There were many food vendors and a stage for entertainment.  I had a gyro and the boys all had corn dogs.

Day-178

The kids had a fun time playing on the floor just before bed.

Day-179

Mick finished rolling our beans on Friday.

Day-180

Our peonies in bloom!  I haven’t seen them bloom for 3 years since we are usually gone.  They were bigger than I remember, but I usually get them fertilized in the spring and fall.

Day-181

Our 1st bloom on the pepper plants!

AKC Shetland Sheepdog AKA: Sheltie

My sweet sheltie, Sadie.  We were out watching the sunset.  She died the next day.

Day-183

Max was the only one who enjoyed the rain.

Week #25 June 18-24, 2014 Moving to Kansas

We put a lot of miles on many vehicles this week!  We moved combines and support equipment to Ness City, KS for winter wheat harvest.  The yield is low and after only cutting 80 acres it has shut us down with rain just about everyday.  It was an adventure, as always on the way down.  We were split up for most of the trip due to tires.  We made it to Miller, SD on Friday evening only to find out there were no hotel rooms available.  Mick and I, our 2 boys and dog, Sadie slept in the crew camper with the guys.  We had very minimal bedding and towels.  One more thing to add to the list for next time!  Saturday morning we ended up replacing all the tires on their camper so we weren’t traveling with the rest of the caravan from that point forward.  One of the trucks had a tire blowout later Saturday morning, but luckily repaired very quickly without unloading the combine.  Lots of road construction made for many extra miles and a very long trip.  We unloaded the combines, setup and some of us headed for home.  We were home for less than 24 hours, but Mick was able to spray some of our flax.  Tuesday we left for Rochester, MN to see a pediatric specialist for Brett.  Everything turned out OK and I’m glad we went.  The soonest appointment was September in Fargo, ND (3 hours away).  The Mayo clinic is top-notch with excellent customer service! I threw in a few extra pictures this week to show a bit more.  Here are some of my captures…

Day-170.1

Wednesday

We had a 4-H meeting about horses near Cando, ND.  The kids learned about horse care and were able to ride a horse later in the evening.  Our boys are still talking about it!

Friday

I’ve wanted a picture of this pheasant in Redfield, SD for many years! This is the first opportunity I had!  Usually I’m driving and pulling something and can’t pull over.  This is the first time I’ve ever gotten to ride and we even had a red light!  We shut down for the night in South Dakota.  Over-sized loads can only travel up to a half hour before sunset.

Sunday

The boys played in the combine tires as they always do!  Max didn’t want his picture so he hid behind and all you can see is his hand.  The next one is corn in Nebraska.
