Today We Start in the Field

Today we got going in the field!  First the rocks were picked.  Rock picking

Then the fertilizer was applied and of course dad had a helper with him.  Max loves to ride but has a tendency to fall asleep.Spreading the fertilizer

This is what a lot of the roads to the fields look like mostly grass and full of holes and you do not drive on them if it has rained recently.

Then it was worked in

and finally the ground was seeded it was so late I didn’t get a picture but 45 acres were seeded today.  This field is going to be barley which gets hauled down to Rahr Malting in Taft, ND and is then sold to make beer.

The Start of a New Crop

Things are starting to pick up we received our first load of starter fertilizer tonight. Our dogs like to supervise.

It was a beautiful night our little guy decided he would splash in the mud…

He was having so much fun…

until he fell on his butt, got wet, screamed and the game was over he was MAD.  He screamed until I got him into the bath.

Wilton Course 3

This is my final cake for Wilton course 3 gum paste and fondant.

In this course we made roses, daisies, carnations and mums.  I love the whole idea of gum paste you can make your decorations way ahead of time and even use them again if you want.  You have to work fast and keep it covered when you’re not working with it as it dries out extremely fast.

For the rose you roll the gum paste out then cut it with a cookie cutter and ruffle the petals on a foam sponge with a ball tool then you wrap it around the center repeat and before you know it you have a beautiful rose.

The carnation is cut from circle cutters then ruffled with a tool on a thin sponge then each layer is stacked – its so amazing how it all comes together.  I’m so excited to start Wilton course 4 – Advanced Gum paste on Monday.
